About the Artist

Born in Naples in 1955, Neri moved to New York in 1978 to play professional football. He studied painting and sculpture at the Art Students League, and became a full time artist in 1980. He held his first solo show at the Kornblee Gallery, New York in 1983 and since then has worked on large-scale site-specific installations in the USA, Europe and Brazil.

His strangely surreal chair installations have earned him an international reputation. Reminiscent of Dada, these works challenge our own conception of familiar everyday objects. Neri’s installation on Hampstead Heath, “The Writer”, a giant table and chair, was his fi rst site-specific installation in the UK (Summer 2005, now on permanent view in Monza, Italy). Neri is currently working on a second London project called “All the Gold in the World”, a physical representation of the actual amount of gold that has been extracted by mankind over the last 6000 years. He is represented by ROLLO Contemporary Art, London.
