About the Artist

Peter Newman is an artist whose work encompasses sculpture, video, painting and photography. Born in London in 1969, he studied at Goldsmith College from 1987-90. He has exhibited widely in Britain and abroad, including the Royal Festival Hall, London and the Guggenheim Museum, Venice.

A video work entitled Free at Last, of a man attempting to perform yoga in freefall, was projected on to the exterior of the 21st Century Museum for Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Japan, for the inaugural exhibition. In 2005, an interactive public sculpture Skystation, was exhibited in Trafalgar Square, St Mary Axe and Canary Wharf. Inspired by Le Corbusier's LC4, this circular spaceship-like sculpture provides an opportunity to lie back and look towards the sky. It bears a plaque with the inscription In Loving Memory Of Those Yet To Be Born. It can be seen at the New Art Centre, Wiltshire.

Current projects include a series of wall sculptures, which depict the shape of the sky as defined by the architecture of different cities around the world.
