About the Artist

Richard Rogers is an internationally renowned architect. He is Chief Adviser to the Mayor of London on Architecture and Urbanism and also serves as Adviser to the Mayor of Barcelona’s Urban Strategies Council. He is a recipient of a number of honours including a knighthood in 1991 and a life peerage in 1996.

Born in Florence, Italy in 1933, Rogers attended the Architectural Association School in London before graduating from Yale University. Rogers is best known for pioneering buildings including Lloyd’s of London, the European Court of Human Rights, Strasbourg, the Millennium Dome, London, the National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff, and Barajas Airport, Madrid. In 1970, Rogers established a partnership with the Italian architect Renzo Piano. After the completion of the Pompidou Center in Paris, the Richard Rogers Partnership was formed which currently employs 130 people in four offices worldwide.

The practice was recently awarded a commission to design ‘Tower 3’, one of the key buildings on the World Trade Center site in New York. Its works embrace a philosophy based on the importance of public space and urban responsibility.
